Twenty Fourteen

Twenty Thirteen is over in less than 12 hours! How are you spending the last couple of days of 2013? I've been busy decorating my parents' new place and then I got sick so I spent an entire day yesterday bed-resting while marathoning The Walking Dead :) Are you excited for 2014? I, for one, can't wait for this year to be over and I'm excited for what God has in store in 2014! Happy new year, my loves!

Point Reyes National Seashore

Yesterday, me and a couple of friends drove north to the Point Reyes National Seashore for a perfect chill day after our finals week. We were having soo much fun walking down the coast trail towards the beach and racing with time (literally) to chase the sunset. It was a beautiful day with beautiful companies and oh how I love California!

Napa Valley Trip

I haven’t posted about my trip to Napa Valley a couple of months ago with my girl friends - I guess I just don’t want to relive the part where our rented car was broken into and my friends’ stuff were taken :( Anyway, the trip to Napa was wonderful and the view there was breathtaking - we visited 3 wineries: Artessa Winery, Rutherford Hill (where we had our picnic lunch), and Castello Diamorosa. All of us were having crazy lots of fun with Napa’s breathtaking view and their delicious wines.

That night after we got back to San Francisco, we decided that the night was still early and we didn’t want to return the car just yet so we stopped by the Twin Peaks for a quick photo sesh. And that part of the day totally ruin the whole trip for us cos someone decided to broke our car’s passenger mirror and took our bags with them :( Note to readers if you want to visit the Twin Peaks in SF: Don’t leave yo stuff in the car! My friends thought since we’re gonna be down for like 15 minutes, it shouldn’t be a problem to leave their bags in the car but apparently not :(

Before I Die I want to...

(click for bigger resolution)

Candy Chang's Before I Die project is a big influence for my thesis. It's a global art project that invites people to reflect on their lives and share their personal aspirations in public space. It inspired me to put together some of the (silly) stuff that I wanna do before I die here. What about you? What are that one thing (or ten) that you want to do before you die? Don't forget to check out her work!

For Seven Days - Proof of Concept

Password: forsevendays

Proof of concept video for my thesis project, For Seven Days, is finally done! Well, not done DONE though, I still have the whole month of January to revamp the idea for my thesis before the actual Midpoint Review but for now, I can gladly say that I’m done with 643!! It was a super fun ride throughout the semester. I got to see a lot of amazing talents and hardworking peeps in my class and I’m honored to be a part of it. I’m really excited to see where this project will go and I look forward to present this to the comittee next year :) One (final) down, two to go!

Not So Silent Night 2013

I miss the thrill of going to concerts and last night’s Not So Silent Night 2013 has finally fulfilled the need of my inner concert geek. 6 full hours of pure awesomeness by The Neighborhood, Bastille, Lorde, Alt-J, Phoenix, and Arcade Fire. The entire performance was truly satisfying. Our seats were a little far from the stage but that didn’t stop us from jumping and dancing when Phoenix was performing Entertainment and when Lorde was doing her iconic ‘twitching’. (Now it felt completely pointless of me for taking these photos cos you can’t see anything haha.)

Solo Movie Time

The Book Thief (2013) & About Time (2013 poster remake done by yours truly.
Going to the movies alone is probably one of my most favorite therapeutic things in the world. I have a lot of pet peeves when it comes to watching movies (people talking, people chewing popcorn loudly, people clapping??!, people giving unnecessarily loud comments, people talking on their cellphones! ughh) so going solo is practically perfect for me and I've been doing it regularly every week for the past two months! I didn't get to do this while I was in Singapore because the theatres were ALWAYS so crowded with teenagers (ugh) so it'd beat the purpose of going alone. Here in SF though, the cinemas don't get that many crowd on weekdays and IT IS SO PEACEFUL in there. It happened more than once that I got the whole theatre to myself which is pretty awesome. Goshhhh just the thought of going there every week got me really excited.

For Seven Days - Proof of Concept

This semester has gone by too fast! I'm presenting my thesis project next Monday and can't say I'm not stoked about it. This thesis prep class has been great and I'm pretty please with what I have so far. Although the real midpoint review presentation won't be until next February, I can't wait to revamp this entire project during the winter intersession and maybe start building pieces of it? (I know it's the holiday season and I'm being way too workaholic ssshhh don't stop me).

Thesis - For Seven Days

At the beginning of every year, we see ourselves jotting down New Year’s resolutions with list of things that will make us be a better person; but how much of it are we really doing? We all say we want to improve our lives but we’re not really doing anything, aren’t we? Commitment can be hard for a lot people.. that’s why we start small; we start challenging ourselves seven-days at a time. For Seven Days will help people to trigger and discover experiences that make the world a little better, one action at a time. The challenge doesn’t have to be a life-changing one like, learn how to speak French in seven days; it can be as simple as throwing morning dance party for seven days or call your parents everyday for seven days. We will be surprised by how little things like these matter in our lives.

Here are some of the moodboards that I compiled for this project.

Twenty Four

24. How did that happen? It seems like yesterday my 21-year-old-self was sitting in front of a computer thinking that one day I’m gonna move out of the tiny island, that is Singapore, and get more out of life. With the grace of God, I finally did move to the States last year - biggest decision I’ve ever made in my life yet! This year, I have nothing but a grateful heart. I have the most wonderful family who are being extremely supportive in everything I do, my idiotic bros back in Jakarta, and my beloved brothers and sisters here in San Francisco. I’m 24 and I’m utterly blessed ;)

Engagement Album - Tony & Catharine

Tada! The album for my friend's engagement shoot is finally DONE. The photo shoot was done in several locations in the Bay area - Golden Gate Park, Sutro Baths, Baker Beach, Treasure Island, Embarcadero, and San Francisco City Hall where they got 'married' (unofficially but legally). Gonna wrap this album up and ship it to the soon-to-be married couple :)

The Great Gatsby Themed Party

Birthday surprises (or basically any kind of party) will no longer be boring when my friend from With Love Event Styling Co. styled it. We had a Gatsby themed luncheon the other day to celebrate one of our friends' birthday and it was fabulously styled and we had an amazing time.

Bandung Bound

A week after my Bangkok trip, me and my friends road-tripped to Bandung and had one of the most amazing culinary experiences there :) A couple of cool places that are worth a mention: Stevie G (the boutique hotel we stayed), Hummingbird Eatery, Garasi Opa (an actual garage that sells vintage stuff), Maja House (if it's possible to make love to a dessert, Maja House's apple crumble would be the one!), White Crater, Vanilla Kitchen & Wine, and Rocca (that heavenly-lookin smores on the second photo was served here!).

Hey, remember when I made commitment to blog for 7 days continuously? Yeah, me neither. Anyway, here's a recap of my Bangkok trip last month (from left to right):

01. Current read: Mindy Kaling's Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? / 02. First meal in Bangkok - delish fishcakes and tom yum goong / 03. Wore my "Live Today" Tattly during the trip / 04. Last meal in Bangkok!

On decorating

Because I'm the only one in my family who's supposed to be the 'creative' one, my parents assigned me the responsibility to handle all the decor at their new place. I'm thinking a wall full of framed artwork and photos and I don't wanna spend too much on buying artwork that doesn't really mean anything to us you know? So I figured why not just made them myself, have them printed and framed - that'll save us a lot! I've always had this idea of printing the entire lyric of Ingrid's "You and I" on my bedroom wall and since, technically, I don't own a house yet, I'll start small with just a line from it and hang it somewhere in the living room. Also, we all have to be reminded to breathe from time to time don't we?

Future office

I made a commitment to myself to post something everyday on my blog for the next 7 days. I hope that's not too ambitious because I'm terrible at posting updates and I envy those who can do so easily on a daily basis. Anyway, I thought I might write about my parents' new house! So they're rebuilding our old house and they're kind enough to build me a small (future) office when I'm back here for good. These are the rendered images our interior designer sent me, what do you think? I personally think it's perfect and cosy and I can't wait to decorate that giant cupboard behind my future desk!

Cinco de Mayo styled With Love

Had a Cinco de Mayo inspired party styled by With Love event styling yesterday at one of our friend's house. It was pretty uhmazing I would say ;) We had a blast just chillin and exchanging stories about our embarrassing past accompanied by pretty macarons and yum cupcakes baked by The Twig Cafe. It sure is a perfect way to spend your summer with your girlfriends!

L.A bound! on Instagram

Visited L.A a couple of weeks ago. There's something about L.A that keeps me going back. Maybe knowing that all of my favorite happy endings were made there makes L.A a little more magical to me.

Portfolio Site Updated!

I apologize for getting really bad at updating my blog now because of the crazy workflow I had for the past few months. Anyhoo, I recently gave my site a slightly different look, check it oot!

Hart Bags

Quick update! I recently got a chance to be a part of this amazing project with an Indonesian designer who's currently crowdfunding her product - Hart Bags - on Kickstarter ;) The amount of love that we got since we first launched it is overwhelming and though we've reached our goal, we still need your continuous support. Check us out on Kickstarter and help us spread the love.

A night with Passion Pit

Went to see Passion Pit, Matt&Kim and Icona Pop last night and it was EPIC. Kim did a booty shake while crowd surfing and also, HARLEM SHAKE! Michael Angelakos from Passion Pit sounded so sexy live.

826 Valencia

This is quite possibly the coolest, most awe-inspiring place in San Francisco. It is a pirate store that is actually a nonprofit tutoring place for students! "826 Valencia is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting students ages six to eighteen with their writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write." I love this place so much I just bought their "Beards are the New Black" T-shirt online. If you live in San Francisco, you definitely should check out this place!

Mission District

Taking Digital Capture class this semester might be the best decision ever. I get to explore the city at least once a week now. Feels good to be out and about again after days of sitting in front of my comp battling with codes :) Went to explore the Mission District today and had a visual feast of mural art.

Skyfall - KenBurn 3D effect

SERIOUSLY how cool is this ?! For our 4th motion graphic assignment, we have to apply the 'Ken Burn' effect to a photo and make it look 3D. What better photo to use than the stills from Skyfall?!

As I mentioned in my previous post, I've finally got an iPhone! It has opened up so many possibilities to create art and I'm completely in love with it <3 Follow me on Instagram @nameisirene

San Francisco Windmills

The upside of taking Digital Capture class is more excuses for me to go around the city with my camera and shoot :D I've always wanted to see this thing and I did today! Visited Murphy & Dutch Windmill at Golden Gate park.

The Castro

I'm taking Digital Capture class this semester and for our first assignment, we have to shoot six photos in a photojournalistic style. Went to Castro street today to take some photos and was, again, amazed by a different side of San Francisco; everyone seems so happy here! The Castro is one of the United States' first gay neighborhoods, and it is currently the largest. Lots of unique stores and restaurants can be found here and, of course, the iconic rainbow flags.

Happy Chinese New Year!

Feels good to be back at school again! I don't care how busy this semester is gonna be, I'm still going to explore every corner of San Francisco whenever I got the chance to. Next stop: Presidio!
